I’ll be the first to admit that I was into coffee shops long before I was into coffee, and as far as I’m concerned, San Diego has some of the best. The combination of great drinks, beautiful interior design and in many cases, solid retail options (flowers! apparel! …bicycles!) make this my favorite city for a caffeine fix. Read on for some of my favorite San Diego coffee shops!
THE CUTEST SAN DIEGO COFFEE SHOPS
COMMUNAL COFFEE

Not to start off playing favorites, but… this shop is my favorite, probably on earth. It’s got stellar drinks and lots of food options, but perhaps most importantly, it shares a space with whimsical floral boutique Native Poppy. I’d go every day if I could!

HOLSEM COFFEE

This sleek, pretty shop has latte and cold brew flavors you won’t find anywhere else, not to mention amazing-looking baked goods up front. It sits in the middle of the North Park neighborhood, which makes it the perfect place to grab a to-go cup for exploring.

MONIKER COFFEE CO.

Moniker Coffee Co. sits inside Moniker General, a lifestyle store that carries everything from candles and planters to furniture and bicycles. Do yourself a favor and order the mocha with housemade ganache to sip while you browse.

JAMES COFFEE CO.

James Coffee Co. has more going on than meets the eye. The space includes a card shop, a soap and beauty shop, and even a barber shop, and James also offers classes on different coffee-brewing techniques in the back. There’s plenty of room to bring your laptop and sit under the signature owl-adorned walls, too.

COFFEE & TEA COLLECTIVE
view website
Not in to coffee but looking for an aesthetically pleasing place to hang? Coffee and Tea Collective’s got you. This shop has plenty of java-free options among its creative menu offerings thanks to its dual focus on tea.

BETTER BUZZ
view website
“Buzz” holds a double meaning at Better Buzz’ flagship space on University Ave., which is shaped like a (gorgeous, tile-and-glass-adorned) honeycomb. There’s also plenty of space at this location if you need a place to work while enjoying a Mexican mocha.
